Happy Trails Chili Cook Off presents: Last-minute Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ 1 - Where is Brewster Park?
A.: 21024 Otoe Road. Take Highway 18 to Dale Evans, turn north and go about 1.5 miles to Otoe. You’ll see the signs from there.
FAQ 2 - How does the Horseshoe tournament work?
A: Sign ups start at 10 a.m. and pitching starts at 11am. Cost is a $10 donation and includes one tasting kit. Tournament play is blind draw doubles, double-elimination. Winners get a cash prize plus a chili t-shirt.
FAQ 3 - Can I still sign up to be a vendor/cook?
A: We’re all filled up! If you want to be on the list to hear about it next year, send your contact information to kmartin@applevalley.org.
FAQ 4 - I am a vendor but don’t know when to show up/where to go.
A: Come in anytime after 6:30am, and early enough to be completely set up and ready by 9:30am. (So if it only takes you an hour to set up, you can arrive at 8:30). Drive in the front gate and someone will greet you and show you to your spot. Keep selling stuff, shaking hands and kissing babies until we tell you that you can stop. That’s usually about 3:30, no later than 4. But you won’t be able to drive your car up to your booth until we determine the crowd is safely contained in the awards area.
FAQ 4 - Can I still enter a car in the car show?
A: Yes – there is no pre-registration. Drive-in is from 8:45 a.m. – 9:30 am, but space is limited. $10 donation includes one tasting kit.
Additional kits for guests are $5.
FAQ 5 – Will there be enough chili to taste?
A: Your $5 admission includes 7 tasting tickets. The best hours for chili tasting are between 11am and 2pm. Some cooks do run out before then. But we still appreciate your $5 donation – it all goes towards the projects of the Rotary Club of Apple Valley!
FAQ 6 – What if I don’t like chili?!
A: Then…why are you here? Seriously though – man cannot live on chili alone. Try some great food from one of our many other food vendors, plus there is live music, the Santa Fe Drifters Western Re-enactment group doing gunfights, bounce houses for the kids and lots of great shopping.
